You see, I pay close attention to the cycles of the Moon. I notice energetic shifts that correspond with where we are in the Moon’s monthly journey. One example is how the Dark Moon time lends itself to introspection while the Full Moon time lends itself to more activity.
The experiment: A blogpost about each New Moon and Full Moon, right before they hit. I’m hoping you’ll find something useful in what’s going on in the heavens, something that might help you focus your own work, your planning of beginnings and endings, your intentions of when to act and when to hold off for a bit.
In each 28-day cycle of the Moon, the energy and promise of the Full Moon is one of completion and culmination, the fulfillment of whatever it is you began at the New Moon, two weeks before. Rinse and repeat.
The Full Moon is always an invitation to examine the balance (or lack of balance) in our lives between the energy represented by the Sun and the energy in opposition to that, represented by the Moon, which is big and full in the sky, reflecting the light of the Sun.
Please let me know (in the comments, in email) what’s useful in these articles, and what’s not. I promise not to get too astro-geeky on you!
With Virgo and Pisces, here are some of the issues you may notice. The Sun’s in Virgo, the sign that is the home for our day-to-day work, routines, health and the need for order and discernment. And the Moon is in Pisces—more visionary and spiritual, more disordered, more concerned with the big picture. How do you honor and express your spirituality while showing up for the details and responsibilities of your everyday life?
It may be difficult to achieve balance between these two energies, but it’s worth it. Because if you don’t you may find yourself leading an overly structured, overly detailed, and overly safe life, or living in so much spontaneity that it feels like chaos.
Pisces also rules the 12th House in your astrological chart—the house in which you do your inner work. What deep hurts are you being called to heal? Your physical body? Emotional wounds? A misunderstanding in work or with your loved ones?
On Friday, Mercury moves into Virgo (a sign it rules, until September 16th), where it shines a light on Virgo’s emphasis on health, healing, work and service. You might feel more analytical and methodical than usual. Use this energy! Those tax records you’ve been neglecting? Your files? Now is a perfect time to do that detail work. Spend some time on systems for your business. If you want to improve efficiency, this is a really good time. Health too. Have you been tolerating a health issue? This is a great opportunity to deepen your healing work.
I meet with my ritual group at each Full Moon and in circle we share what we’re grateful for in the last Moon cycle (what we’ve completed, learned, garnered), and what we are manifesting in the coming Moon cycle (new projects and intentions). Or sometimes, if I can’t get to circle, I do this work at my own altar.
How do you mark your progress, celebrate what you’ve gained, and release what no longer serves you? What would you like to add to make your Full Moon observance more potent and intentional?
Is it useful? Want more details? Less? Let me know.
I have a Virgo sun and a Pisces rising. I feel caught up in a whirlwind right now, like all the moving gears are flying and I’m not sure who’s in control. At the same time, I feel like authentic self expression and healing of old bodily/psychic wounds are bubbling up in a “you must deal with me now” sort of way. It’s kind of wonderful, and also scary, because there’s so much to process.
Wow, what a powerful lunation for you! Stay grounded, gorgeous, and keep opening up, in sweet surrender.
I’ve got your back, as always!
Love and light,
Sue
@MagnoliasWest Thanks! I am working on learning self-hypnosis for anesthesia as part of this lunation… to prepare for a comfortable and joyful childbirth. So, in addition to everything, my mind and soul are opening up wider to allow for greater learning and also greater peace. The process of learning this opens up issues standing in the way of my ease… I know it’s worth it to keep opening up, and I’ll remember that you said that when the “ACK!” moments come.
You sound like you’re in such a good place and doing such awesome work. Rock on, gorgeous, and thanks so much for taking the time to share your powerful love here in the comments!
I love this post, Sue! Just the right mix of astrology and practical questions for me. I have been paying attention to the lunar phases for some years now and it really helps me understand myself better. Thank you. Love, Karina
Karina, thanks for taking the time to comment. Glad you found this useful. There will be more from me on this…

Hi Sue,
Over the past year I have been tuning into the moon’s energy and influence. I the moon in Pisces is busy in my life right now. This is what astrology is all about, right? Reflecting our deepest truth back at us. Very helpful!
Thank you and happy full moon!
Crystal
Love and blessings of the Full Moon to you as well, Crystal! Keep opening to the Pisces energy, deep and watery.
Love and light,
Sue
Hi Sue:
What deep work do I need to heal? How can I release what no longer serves me? You ask such great questions. I will sit with the answers. Thank you. I am grateful for Sue who takes the time to write such heartfelt posts so I have questions to reflect on as the Blue Moon rises tomorrow. <3
Love and light, Tanya
@Caperpoet Tanya, from my heart to yours. I’ll be up early, to catch the moonset/sunrise. Have a blessed, bright day full of peace and clarity. Thanks for the comment love!
Love and blessings,
Sue

this is fantastic. I freaking love it. Will definitely sign up AND read every issue. The extra astrology tidbit shed a little light on why I suddenly have a list of doctors names to call on my to-do list, something I’ve been avoiding all year. Dentist stuff, too, is suddenly moving forward a little bit again. For the last two days, I’ve been getting up before dawn to spend a little time watching as it sinks down toward the horizon, big and beautiful while being deeply aware of the monthly tidal pull happening within my own body. I love feeling that connection.
Your questions? those are the very same questions I’ve been asking myself and talking about within discussion groups all week.
@BrandiHarrigan Wow, thank you so much! Just what I needed to hear. The more I open my heart and peel the layers around the core, the more authenticity I can offer. Thanks for reflecting that back, makes it much less scary!
And welcome to the newsletter list! Did you find the signup form okay? Let me know if you need help.
Love and light,
