Who I am

Sue headshotHello you! I’m so glad you’re here…!

I know that these “About” pages can be stiff, or awkward, or overwhelming. Let’s not go there at all. I get it. You want to lean into me a little bit, see if you find that something that resonates… So here I go, parting the curtains, showing some essential pieces of the mosaic of my being.

Skills and talents (let’s get this one out of the way first, shall we?)

Brand development and logo design

Knowing that your mark—the representation of your business in words and images—is a true representation of your own highest goals and values makes a significant difference in your success, and in the satisfaction you experience from your work. I’ve been creating brands and logos and business identity for over 20 years.

LJ5sirenaWeb design and development

Your presence on the web can be elegant, heartfelt, soulful, impactful, and easy for you to maintain. I’ve helped solopreneurs, nonprofits, and small businesses express themselves—and sell their products and programs online—since 1999.

Coaching women in business who crave a more fully expressed life, every day

Here’s how: I usher business women into the spacious, sacred and regal demonstration of their heart’s mission and soul’s purpose in every facet of their business. Yes, love, you can bring your soul to your work! 2013 will be my tenth year as a coach. I received my business coach certification in 2005.

Personal branding

Helping you define what you are here to do and making sure it shows in every word, in every action, and even (and maybe most importantly) every thought. Did you know your thoughts could be read on your face, heard in the tone of your voice? Yes, body language is a real thing! I can hear you smile on the phone!

Social media support

Figuring out whether (or even why!) to use Twitter, or Facebook, or LinkedIn or Pinterest or… can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re new to social media marketing. Let me support you in discerning how to get into the conversation on your social network(s) of choice in a soulful, honest, generous and non–energy-sucking way.

Women’s spirituality teaching and facilitation

I am an ordained high priestess in a women’s spiritual group. I design and perform blessings and rituals. I help you celebrate all of life’s transitions—the wheel of the year, life, death, children, comings together and separations, loss, gain, aging. Here’s what this means for you and our work together on your business: You can be your most beautiful authentic self. Whether I’m coaching with you, or designing your brand and your website, there’s space for you to fully show up in our work, in the full, fierce and tender spectrum of your magnificent, sacred self.

My values and goals, what I do my best to live into every day

Being my word, being integrous

(Yes I did, I made that word up.) Here’s what it means: I do what I say I’m going to do when I say I’m going to do it, and when shit happens (which it does, often, and always unpredictably), letting you know that plans have changed.

Live and let live, all day every day

I let people be who they are, because—guess what?—they’re gonna be anyway. Oh! This one is especially good if you have teenagers in your life. Or parents. Or spouses. Or clients. Just sayin’…

Practicing exquisite self-care

Which trains me to be present for you, and for others. What does that look like? Let’s see…I’m dedicated to playing my A-game, which works best when I make sure to eat well, rest well, meditate, take breaks in my day, express gratitude, live generously and maintain balance in every area of my life. And show up for yoga class and other regular fitness classes and workouts. And sing (badly but with gusto) and dance as often as I can!

Listening, really listening

MomTitsOutSqI am passionate about and committed to your success in every area of your life (and my own!).

The things that light me up, nourish and inspire me

Audacious juicy fully expressed living at every age

That’s my mom, at her most audacious, in the photo on the right. And she remained audacious until her death in her late 70s.

The goddess

She of 10,000 Names—and women’s spirituality, observing the wheel of the year, the darkness in the light and the light in the darkness.

My beautiful daughter

…my touchstone, my cherished, goofy, kind, smart and amazing Rose.

The ocean and the redwoods

…home to my grounded heart and my soaring spirit.

Cooking fresh, local and healthy food with mad skills and lots of love

Grilling vegetables from my garden or from the farmers market. Eating eggs from our chickens. Making kombucha, sauerkraut and ghee. Eating sustainably and seasonally.

Music and dancing

Bruce Springsteen, Van Morrison, Aretha, Nina Simone, Dion, Leon Russell. Jitterbugging/lindy hopping to the Count, the Duke, Pops, Django and more. Blues dancing to all great blues music (we call blues dances three-minute love affairs).

Creative expression

Maskmaking, collaging, fiber arts, painting, poetry, shadowboxes, miniature things of all kinds. My home is my studio.

Living a grateful, generous and accountable life.

Three things you might not have known, or ever would have guessed, about me (!)

I ran away and joined the circus…

…a traveling tent show. I was the first woman roustabout ever hired by the Clyde Beatty Cole Brothers Circus. I lasted a month. An intense, hard-drinking, month. Putting up the tent and grandstand every day and tearing it down at night and selling candy in between.

I ran a restaurant called Mr. Natural

…in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. I was the short order grill and wok cook. Three-egg omelettes with anything you wanted inside for 75¢. We were a bunch of hippies doing this communally and we didn’t know a damned thing about pricing. (Clearly: even in the ‘70s 75¢ for an omelette was ridiculous.) We ate very very well for about nine months.

I’ve been clean and sober since 1991.

Which means that for a very long time I wasn’t. Which means that I can receive your darkest stories with love and compassion. It takes a long time to be able to feel yourself being less than bent in recovery. Are you a clean and sober woman, yourself? Congratulations! Rockstar (believe me, I know). Wondering if I can help you? If you can relate to these statements, I bet I can. Here you go: I’m a liar and a thief and that’s not what I’m doing today. Or: I’m obsessed by loss and fear that that’s not where I’m hanging out today.

Ready to learn more about how I work? Here you go.

The door is always open for you to ask me questions, schedule a discovery call, tell me what you think. Please, reach out. I love to hear from you, and I’ll get right back to you. Okay, it may take a day or two (no more than that, I promise!), because I’m taking care of my cherished clients.
