20 things you might not know about me [blog tag]

Having a little fun with blogging today — join in!

To celebrate making it through a colonoscopy and endoscopy yesterday with no more than the expected level of trauma, I thought I’d jump in and participate in the “20 Things You Might Not Know About Me” blog tag started by April from Blacksburg Belle. April began this blog tag experiment to build community among bloggers — so we can connect more and get to know each other better.

Before I dive in to my 20 things, let me explain about the photo.

The colonoscopy and endoscopy were held at Dignity Hospital (aka St. Mary’s Medical Center) in San Francisco. I’d still like to know how they dare call themselves Dignity while making me wear those socks, and that gown. Dignity? Not so much!

Okay, let’s do this! — The 20 things you might not know about me

Question 1: How tall are you?

Answer: Five-four–ish.

Question 2: Do you have a hidden talent? If so, what?

Answer: Even when I’m somewhere I’ve never been before, I am almost never late. I have a built-in talent for knowing just how long it takes to get from here to there.

Question 3: What’s your biggest blog-related pet peeve?

Answer: People who use overly decorative fonts in their blogs. Beloveds, these fonts with curly bits and excessive thick/thin differentiation are designed to be used sparingly, in headlines; not as your text font!! I’ve taken to using a web developer trick — inspecting an element and changing the text font to something readable if I want to read a story that otherwise might cause too much aggravation and squinting — don’t make me avoid your blog; make it readable!

Question 4: What’s your biggest non-blog related pet peeve?

Answer: The drivers who cut in front of me to get on the left-side freeway on-ramp without signaling or slowing down. Grrrr…

Question 5: What’s your favorite song?

Answer: Oh, I never have one favorite! My top three today are

Question 6: What’s your favorite Etsy shop that isn’t yours?

Answer: Don’t shop much on Etsy.

Question 7: What’s your favorite way to spend your free time when you’re alone?

Answer: Making something beautiful or delicious. Reading. Watching TV. Having an entertaining and powerful orgasm.

Question 8: What’s your favorite junk food?

Answer: Dim sum or sweet potato fries or fro-yo with dark chocolate bits. (I don’t count the dark chocolate as junk, just the yogurt; dark chocolate is nourishing food and one of my basic food groups.)

Question 9: Do you have a pet or pets? If so, what kind and what are their names?

Answer: No pets.

Question 10: What are your number one favorite nonfiction and fiction books?

Answer: Fiction: I’m devouring Amy Bloom’s books right now; she’s good! Lucky Us was beautifully written, and full of surprises. Jeeze, I’m embarrassed to say I don’t have a favorite non-fiction book. I do have a favorite non-fiction book title, though: Failing Forward. Didn’t love the book so much, but I sure did love the title and the concept.

Question 11: What’s your favorite beauty product?

Answer: Egyptian Magic and my home-blended moisturizing oils. I have beautiful skin.

Question 12: When were you last embarrassed? What happened?

Answer: When I babbled to my doctor coming out of anesthesia yesterday. I barely remember the conversation, but what I do remember is mortifying.

Question 13: If you could only drink one beverage (besides water) for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Answer: Easy! Kombucha, my home brew.

Question 14: What’s your favorite movie?

Answer: For many years, I’ve answered this question by naming Godfather I and II (not III, never III!), but since I haven’t seen them in a very long time, I question my choice. I love movies. I am helping to keep movie theaters alive in my town, but I don’t really have a favorite movie. I do have a list of must-sees. Bang the Drum Slowly comes to mind in this now moment. And I’m gonna shoehorn this in: The 60 hours of The Wire — the best episodic television ever.

Question 15: What were you in high school: prom queen, nerd, cheerleader, jock, valedictorian, band geek, loner, artist, prep?

Answer: A loner and a stoner.

Question 16: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?

Answer: Provence and Maui.

Question 17: PC or Mac?

Answer: Always and forever Mac. What’s a PC?

Question 18: Last romantic gesture from a crush, date, boy/girlfriend, spouse?

Answer: I’m single, and it’s been a while.

Question 19: Favorite celebrity?

Answer: Pepe Julian Onziema.

Question 20: What blogger do you secretly want be best friends with?

Answer: Mark Silver.

Sue

I’m a barely tamed hippie, sage, seasoned, sarcastic (not all the time any more, but still). I’m a mom, a daughter, sister, a neighbor, and a friend. I’ve been on this meandering journey — like you, probably — seeking a better connection to and experience of peace, harmony, and fun in every bit of life. I’m single, quite good at it, and mostly love it. I’m here for the conversations I get to have with you, which these days center on exploring the mystery and beauty of life, work, health, aging, and creative expression. Want to know a little more about me and my journey? Explore the site. Read the blog. Connect with me on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and LinkedIn.

Lively conversation!

I have to be honest here Sue, I couldn’t concentrate fully on your answers 2-20 due to my complete baffledness of you being 5’4″-ish. In my mind you are a giant!

And those yellow socks really do rock. Even when you have your head down, you just have to smile.

Lorraine, thanks for the hearty laugh; you brightened my day! This happens to me all the time, making up what people look like based on what they sound like on the phone and in their writing. Then doing a double-take adjustment when I finally meet them (or read their vital statistics in their blog!).

      Love and gratitude,
      Sue
